The best international jobs
The reasons for searching and engaging international jobs are numerous. Some want the prestige, the high salary, the opportunity to travel, while some want all of it. Aside from the expertise however, there is a lifestyle aspect that needs to be seriously considered and addressed. If left unchecked, all the prestige, salary and other advantages of international business jobs may, in the end, not be worth it.
In terms of credentials, scholastic achievement still plays a big role. While there are more and more stories of people like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and most recently Mark Zuckerberg out there who seem to truly challenge the notion that a formal education (particularly a university degree) is needed to succeed in life, they are still regarded as exceptions to the rule and many companies still tend to rely on good, solid academic achievement as a gauge to determine if an applicant is worth their time and investment. Graduating from a top ranked college and having post graduate degrees do nothing but increase your chances of being noticed in the international job market. Additionally, certain skills such as being fluent in another language and having had some travel experience are also big pluses to prospective employers.
When it comes to finding the proper discipline, studies show that a degree in data and statistics is highly in demand overseas. Jobs like being an international financial analyst, international buyer, and international commodities trader pays big bucks and has the highest probability of being chosen to work for large multinationals in first world countries. Another set of lucrative career choices are skills on the other side of the spectrum. Individuals who have artistic inclinations such as those in graphic design or the like are likewise in high demand. This particular skill set is also very advantageous since it is very difficult to duplicate. Companies are therefore more than willing to invest in a good artist and are most likely to provide them with a good package and a long term contract.
The other aspect of pursuing an international job is the change in lifestyle involved. While many individuals welcome and enjoy the adventure, it is always prudent to prepare for certain eventualities. The first thing that should be absolutely clear is direct compensation. When negotiating for your salary, take into account the cost of living in the area where you work. People tend to overlook this fact and get a rude awakening when it is already too late. Remember that what may seem like a high paying job from where you are currently located, can be an impossible package to live with where you will be staying. Aside from this, you should be very meticulous about the additional package an international job offers. Facilities such as cross-cultural training, family benefits, career counseling and reassignment possibilities are all very important when forging a career in a foreign place.
